Chromatic Equivalents
This work is inspired by Alfred Stieglitz's Equivalents, an abstract photography series of clouds which he began in 1922. Chromatic Equivalents explores the reemergence of instant photography in an era of dominant digital technologies, and questions what art is, either the image or object. In the process of making the images, I chose to focus on minimalistic abstractions of light, color, and the beautiful imperfections achieved with Polaroid film. The magic began when exploring the juxtaposition of the prints with further inspiration from Albert Munsell or Mark Rothko. Ultimately, the work is about how you feel when you look at it.
